Harrison's Dream

Harrison's Dream

For this newest RM Band Service CD the Principal Director of Music, Lt Col Chris Davis, brought together a composite band of the most talented and experienced musicians from the whole Band Service to make this recording of highly technical symphonic wind band music. An ambitious departure from the usual repertoire of Royal Marines bands, the CD is an absolute must for all those who appreciate the technical skills and musicianship of Royal Marines musicians. Indeed we venture to suggest that it is such a world class collection of compelling recordings that it demands wide exposure. Not least for the reason that it features three UK premier recordings. The tracks are:

1. Harrison's Dream - Graham *
2. A Maritime Overture - Ireland
3. HMS Trinidad - Lloyd
4. The Sea Treaders
5. James Cook, Circumnavigator - Vinter
6. The City In The Sea - Clarke
(euphonium soloist: Musn Steve Boyes)

Total running time 72 minutes

* Why Harrison's Dream? It pursues the story of clock maker John Harrison and his journey of discovery in the 18th century to find a solution to the scientific problem of the period namely the mariner's quest for a means of calculating longitude.
